Students learned about the dangers of reckless environmental resource depletion from the classic Dr. Seuss story “The Lorax” during the Feb. 23 movie night.
The movie started at 7:30 p.m. on the north end of the Quad, with popcorn and pizza available for purchase. It was hosted by the Students for Environmental Action (SEA) Club, a student organization that promotes sustainability awareness. They host educational activities like recycling competitions, informative presentations, and movie nights.

SEA Club Co-President Catie Ramicone ‘26 encouraged students to take part in the annual Climate Action Week, which occurred March 16-22 this year. There were a variety of activities throughout the week, including button making, informational sessions, an “Erin Brockovich” movie night and a clothing swap. The goal of Climate Action Week, much like the movie night, was to educate about environmental issues and sustainability methods. As those who attended “The Lorax” movie night learned, meaningful change requires considerable action.
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better,” The Lorax said. “It’s not.”
McKenzie Rose, a sophomore double-majoring in Environmental Studies and Journalism, serves as the Redlands Bulldog Editor-in-Chief this semester. McKenzie first dabbled in the world of journalism during high school by working as a freelance reporter with the municipal Hermiston Herald and regional East Oregonian newspapers near her hometown of Echo, Oregon. She enjoys running (participating in the university’s track & field and cross country teams), spending time with her pets, traveling and listening to good ‘ol country music!
