Women’s Volleyball Victorious Against University of Antelope Valley

The University of Redlands faced the University of Antelope Valley in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 25, claiming a victory in straight sets.

The Lady Bulldogs entered the opening set with a kill from sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Burdick. Redlands continued to impress offensively with a total of 9 kills throughout the first set from players Sofia Olsson, Sammi Tafoya, Christina Casey, Ellie McLeod, and Megan Houston. The team capitalized on their total of 4 service aces from McLeod, Burdick, and freshman libero Lauren Lux to win the first set, 25-13.

At the start of the second set, the Bulldogs found themselves neck and neck with the Pioneers. Redlands struggled with a .216 hitting percentage, their lowest of the night. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs finally broke the 19-all tie due to service error from Antelope Valley. The Lady Bulldogs finished the set with 2 kills from Olsson and Addison Fonseca and a final service ace from Emily Marty, finishing with a score of 25-20.

The Bulldogs had their best hitting percentage of the night in the third set, with an impressive .419 mark. Redlands got a head start to the set with multiple kills, giving them a 14-5 lead. With a total of 15 kills and only 2 errors, the team finished up the night with a clean victory of 25-13.

The Bulldogs were guided by Casey’s .421, McLeod’s .500, and Lux’s 1.00 kill percentage, along with Tafoya’s impressive 7 kills and Olsson’s 6. Olsson and sophomore setter Jackie Andrade eased the Pioneer’s chances of scoring with their impactful 17 and 13 respective assists.

Redlands (13-12) faces Chapman University on Senior Night for their last home game of the season on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
