Emma Wade, here – the Editor of the paper’s Culture Section! Every Monday, you can check back here for four wonderful picks made by yours truly to bring you bliss in the upcoming week. My selections will entail a favorite album, a binge-worthy series, something important to read and a quote to get you inspired.
Stay gold, friends.
Album: Ok so I’m totally cheating on this one, but it’s worth it. Spotify has a playlist called “Bring Back the 2000s,” and it’s absolutely everything you would hope it to be. The playlist features the hits we used to sing on the top of our little lungs while watching music videos on TRL and MTV Hits or that we used to headbang to during middle school dances. Artists include Justin Timberlake, Shakira, AVRIL LAVIGNE, Green Day and of course, Nelly. Our music tastes were so eclectic and wonderful, and listening to the playlist brings me back to days where my future didn’t terrify me. Get back to simpler times and give the playlist a listen.
Binge Worthy: Sons of Anarchy, available for streaming on Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu
If there was an amount less than nothing, that would be how I would describe my interest in anything related to motorcycle gangs. But in a wonderful series of events, I needed a new series to watch, Netflix wasn’t working, and Sons of Anarchy was the first show to pop up on my Amazon Firestick screen. So I pressed play and hoped for the best. One episode in, I was in love with the main character, Jax, I was emotionally invested in the future of the motorcycle club and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the next big thing. The characters are archetypal and yet dynamic, and the plot has more drama than even your mama can handle.
Read of the Week: 15 Latino Voters Explain Why They’re Voting for Trump from Buzzfeed. No matter what your political ideology is, I think it’s absolutely essential that we understand one another’s motives and priorities when it comes to politics. Our fellow Americans have legitimate concerns that they feel only Trump can adequately address. Let’s learn what those concerns are, and more importantly, let’s learn how we can actually address those issues.
Quote: “‘President Obama will go down as perhaps the worst president in the history of the United States!’ – @realDonaldTrump. Hey, @realDonaldTrump, at least I will go down as a president.” from President Barack Obama reading “mean tweets”. Yes, Mr. President, yes.
