“Visiting Writers Series: Guest Speaker David L. Ulin” by Creative Writing Department

The creative writing department invites you to a Visiting Writers Series virtual author’s talk with David Ulin on February 4th at 7:00 pm. Mr. Ulin is the editor of a three-volume edition of Joan Didion’s collected works for the Library of America. Didion: The 1960s and 70s was published in 2020. Collections of Didion’s work from the 1980s and ‘90s will be published in 2021 and 2022.
He is also the author or editor of a dozen books, including Sidewalking: Coming to Terms with Los Angeles, shortlisted for the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay, and Writing Los Angeles: A Literary Anthology, which won a California Book Award.

“A Kathryn Green Lecture series with Monet Malek” by Johnston Center

Monet Malek ‘09 is a queer, Assyrian editor born and bred in the City of Angels with a not-so secret love for astrology and Tarot. She graduated the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies in 2009 with an emphasis in Film, Aesthetics and Gender Studies. Monet moved back to Los Angeles with her favorite fellow Johnstonian in research of a story to tell. After editing many web series and TV pilots, as well as taking a deep-dive into sound design/mixing, color correction and visual effects. Monet finally found herself working in the holy grail-Scripted Television. She’s worked on TV series for Netflix, Comedy Central, FX, and STARZ. Most notably, Netflix’s BLACK AD.And she’s currently working on her biggest show yet-as an assistant editor on Ryan Murphy’s latest season of American Crime Story.
