The University of Redlands has an abundance of student-athletes, but that doesn\u2019t mean students have to be on a team to have fun on the field. Student clubs are a great way for people to join a sport and have a good time. One such club is the Softball Club, one of the University\u2019s newest student-led organizations on campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior reporter Kae Yeoh sat down with the president of Softball Club, Wesley Miller, to get some insight on this unique group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yeoh: Thank you for sparing your time, Wesley. Would you like to quickly introduce yourself?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miller: <\/strong>Sure. My name is Wesley Miller, and I\u2019m the president of the Softball Club this year. I actually just started the club this semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yeoh: So what exactly is Softball Club?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miller: Softball Club is basically a club for people who don\u2019t want to play baseball or softball on one of the University\u2019s teams. It\u2019s similar to the Soccer Club, where we do practices, play a few scrimmages. What I\u2019m hoping is we get enough members to play in an adult softball league that begins next semester between January and April. I\u2019m also hoping we can play against other schools. So, it\u2019s just a fun activity for people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yeoh: That\u2019s awesome! So what level are you guys looking for in terms of skill\u2013beginners, advanced, etc.?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miller: We\u2019re accepting anyone who has any interest. You don\u2019t even have to have played baseball or softball to join. We\u2019re willing to help coach anyone who wants to learn how to hit, learn how to field, how to throw. So anyone who wants to join can join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yeoh<\/strong>: How regularly do you meet?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miller: We usually meet Tuesdays and Thursdays on the R field. Tuesdays it’s 7-9pm and Thursdays it’s 9-10:30. The Athletic Director said no to using the softball field, but we may try off-campus fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yeoh: As a follow-up to that: what kind of commitment are you looking for in participants?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miller: We\u2019re going for average engagement. Obviously we want people to be there, as many as possible, but at the end of the day we\u2019re just here to have fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yeoh: Final question: How would you like people to contact you if they\u2019re interested?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
