Nothing spells back to school quite like the beginning of Greek life’s Fall semester Rush. Fall Rush kicked off last month, with applications due on September 11 and events continuing until the 24th. Rush began with an all-Greek barbecue on Friday, September 9. There, students interested in learning more about Greek life had the opportunity to meet sorority and fraternity members in a casual setting to get an idea of each organization and what being a part of them might entail.
During rush, all students intending to rush must attend at least one informal event held by each organization in order to gauge which organization might be the best fit for them. Per tradition, after the BBQ each fraternity and sorority competed in the annual lip sync battle, which is an enjoyable way to break the ice. On September 14, Alpha Sigma Pi hosted its first informal event at their house, and Delta Kappa Psi held a tailgate at the Delta house. Speaking about their first gathering where they met potential new members, Jojo Weis said it was “a great way to meet different people around campus and form connections.” Chi Rho Psi held their informal event BBQ style on that same night.
This rush in particular is notable because of the return of the fraternity Alpha Gamma Nu, which has not been on campus for the past three years.
The culmination of the event-filled two weeks of rush is Bid Day, which was Friday, September 23. Rushees selected for a bid were visited by active members of their new sorority or fraternity to celebrate. As the new pledges endure the six-week long process, one can only hope they, like Weiss, found their new community of friends.
